Issued: 11 June 2008

Dear Supporter,

It will be one year in July since STAR4Africa was formed. It has been an exciting year during which we have commenced many interesting projects and teamed up with several organisations doing vital work in Africa.

As you may know it has always been the intention of STAR4Africa to work mainly on educational projects within Africa. To that end we have embarked on projects in Ghana, Kenya, Sierra Leone and Namibia.

In Ghana we have partnered The Assin Endwa Trust and have provided six scholarships to date. These scholarships pay for school fees, uniforms, food etc for children who otherwise simply wouldn’t get an education at all. In addition we have provided the Trust with funds for their water project which aims to bring fresh water to within 100 metres of homes in Endwa.

In Sierra Leone STAR4Africa has started a joint venture with The Global Rescue Mission Sierra Leone (GM-SL) to bring about a children’s refuge. The refuge works with children who have become displaced following the war in their country. We offer a safe place to stay as well as teaching arts and crafts and some basic engineering. There is also a football tournament organised for these football mad kids.

We have provided funds to Maria Chege who is building a school in Kenya using volunteers and using her own money and donations. In Namibia we have sponsored a six form college student from Surrey to spend a year volunteering in schools teaching English.

There are many exciting plans going forward to expand the activities of STAR4Africa and I’d like to take this opportunity to thank everybody who has supported us during our first year.

Many Thanks

Nick Nicholson
